
The Federal Government of Nigeria is spending one billion ($1) dollars for the clean-up of Ogoniland, an oil rich area in Rivers State. The Federal Minister of Environment, Mrs. Amina Mohammed said deliberate plans has been made to deploy human resources, financial resources and materials for the remediation exercise with compliance with global best practice put out by the United Nations Environment Programme – UNEP.
New Energy Services Company Ltd (oil and gas vessel and crane supply company), Engineering Automation Technology Ltd (engineering design and shop fabrication company), JBIS Integrated Resources Ltd (petroleum and petrochemical inspection) were among the other top African corporate bodies that won the African Governance & Corporate Leadership Awards 2016 at the African Governance & Corporate Leadership Forum 2016 which was organized by the Institute for Government and took place at Nigeria’s Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
The Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria, The Honourable Minister of Petroleum Resources, President Muhammadu Buhari, Minister of State Petroleum, Dr. Ibe Kachchukwu and the Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Dr. Maikanti Baru for signing out of the cash-call-exit agreement with the International Oil Companies (IOCs). Engr. Gabriel Ekanem, Executive Director Operations of the Institute in a statement said the petroleum upstream sector may now experience growth and development as many more investment will flow in the sector. Nigeria’s outstanding debt profile to the IOCs is put at $1.7 billion as at 2015.
The Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria plans to transit five (5) million homes to liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) – cooking gas in two years. This action may increase per capita consumption of gas. Gas is more efficient, preferable and safer alternative to other regular fuels. Some of the countries that have moved to LPG currently include but not limited to Indonesia that has fifty three (53) million homes using the liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
