
The Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) held the Commonwealth Oil & Gas Induction “Portharcourt 2018” with the theme “Emerging Challenges in the Oil & Gas Industry: Trends, Disruptions & Opportunities” on Wednesday December 19 2018 at the Hotel Presidential, Portharcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria by 4PM prompt as planned.
The theme for this year’s Commonwealth Oil & Gas Induction Programme is quite topical and touched on critical issues and challenges for the oilfield waters – deep and shallow including production systems. The other essential issues discussed by the lecturer are the emerging challenges of induced seismicity, unconventional hydrocarbon recovery strategy, funding and regulatory and crude oil production problems and solutions. Management of risks, cost control, optimization of performance of employees, digital oilfield for production optimization, reservoir recoverability and environmental health risks reduction, etc.
Professor Akin Akindoyeni the Chairman-in-Council, Institute of Oil & Gas Research & Hydrocarbon Studies (IOGRHS) in his welcome address said that the Institute was established to play cooperative intervention functions between the public, intellectual and private sectors with the objective of contributing to the development, stability and growth of our hydrocarbon, oil and gas industry through authentic research studies, garnering of the precious experiences of the doyens of governance and the industry, with the aim of providing creditable data for the public, private and international stakeholders for optimum decisions in their operative processes.
Akin mentioned that the membership (individual and corporate) of the Institute is deliberately made internationally in order to harvest the fruits of knowledge enterprises in the oil and gas industry for the benefit of mankind. He said that data for policy issues shall be submitted periodically so that the regulatory process may bring comfort and good welfare to all concerned, especially those communities from where the petroleum resources are being extracted, and that the welfare of the industry is the common goal and as a team, we expects to win if all hands come on deck. The event was well attended by industry leaders, academics and professionals.
